Humanist Sammelband of Boccaccio, Petrarch and Apuleius
In conjunction with our selection for SLAM's January E-Rendez-Vous - connected by the theme of Compendia - the Book of the Month for January is this Sammelband of texts by Boccaccio, Petrarch and Apuleius.
Including the texts:
Boccaccio's De casibus virorum illustrium
Boccaccio's De claris mulieribus
Petrarch's Rerum memorandarum libri
Apuleius' De asino aurea
While the first three texts of this Humanist Sammelband treating the topic of history's most respected and reviled figures, using them as examples to guide readers to a path of virtue. The fourth text is a chronicle of the ludicrous adventures of a young man who transforms himself into an ass. With its fine woodcut cycles of the high quality that was customary in Augsburg book illustration around the mid-16th century, this compendium is a welcome addition to the three others chosen to exhibit at SLAM's final E-Rendez-Vous this January.
